Abstract

This study aims to understand middle school teachers' awareness, knowledge levels, and practices regarding STEM education before and after in-service training. The research employs a qualitative case study design and includes interviews with 30 teachers from various disciplines. During the 30-hour in-service training, the fundamental principles of STEM, interdisciplinary approaches, and assessment and evaluation methods were emphasized. The findings indicate that teachers had limited knowledge of STEM prior to the training; however, their awareness of interdisciplinary approaches and 21st-century skills increased significantly after the training. Nevertheless, teachers reported concerns about time constraints, insufficient infrastructure, and student profiles when integrating STEM practices into their lessons. The study highlights the necessity of supporting teachers with comprehensive in-service training programs and improving physical resources in schools to ensure the effective implementation of STEM education. In conclusion, STEM education is considered a crucial approach for fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, problem-solving, and innovative thinking skills for both teachers and students. However, it is recommended that further support and planning be provided to ensure the sustainability of the training programs and to overcome challenges encountered during implementation.
