Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the strength and balance performance relationships of athletes in different age groups. A total of 155 athletes from different sports branches in the junior and star categories participated in the study voluntarily. Dynamic balance (Y-balance test), static balance (Flamingo balance test) and strength (grip/back/leg) values of the subjects participating in the study were determined. Mean and standard deviation values of the data belonging to the descriptive statistics of the participants were calculated. For data suitable for normal distribution, independent sample t-test was used to examine the differences between paired groups, and Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used to examine paired correlations. Nonparametric tests were used for data that did not meet the normal distribution assumption, and Mann-Whitney U test was used for paired group comparisons, and Spearman correlation coefficient (ρ) was used to examine paired relationships. The significance level in the study was accepted as 0.01 and 0.05. As a result of the analyses, a statistically significant difference was found in favor of the star category between the age groups in terms of grip strength (right and left), leg strength, back strength and composite score (right and left) values of Y balance test variables (p 0.01). While a very weak negative correlation was found between grip strength (right and left) and anterior (right and left) and flamingo (right and left) variables, a high positive correlation was found with composite score (right and left) variables. A very weak positive correlation was found between leg strength and posteromedial (right) and posterolateral (left), and a moderate positive correlation was found between composite score (right and left). A very weak positive correlation was found between back strength and posteromedial (right and left) and posterolateral (left), and a moderate positive correlation was found between composite score (right and left). As a result, a correlation was found between strength performance and static and dynamic balance values in this athlete sample.
