Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effects of dietary supplementation with enriched zinc and yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, SC) on growth performance, selected internal organ weights, certain blood parameters, leg bone strength and crude ash content in Japanese quails. A total of 400 one-day-old Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) were used in the experiment and were randomly allocated into four groups, with 20 quails per replicate. The dietary treatments were as follows: Group K, control diet; Group Zn, zinc-supplemented diet (12 mg zinc/kg diet); Group SC, yeast-supplemented diet (SC at 3 g/kg diet); and Group ZnSC, zinc + yeast-supplemented diet (12 mg zinc + 3 g SC/kg diet). The experimental period lasted 35 days, during which performance parameters were recorded. At slaughter, blood samples were collected, carcass characteristics were evaluated, and the biomechanical properties of the thigh bone were determined. The results indicated that zinc and yeast supplementation did not affect growth performance or carcass characteristics. However, enriched zinc supplementation significantly reduced serum triglyceride and total cholesterol levels. In contrast, bone strength and selected internal organ weights of quails fed diets supplemented with enriched zinc or yeast did not differ significantly from those of the control group. In conclusion, enriched zinc and zinc–yeast supplementation exerted beneficial effects on serum lipid parameters in quails, while no effects were observed on the other measured parameters.

Özet

Bu çalışmada, yemlere zenginleştirilmiş çinko ve maya (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, SC) kullanımının Japon bıldırcınlarının besleme performansı, bazı iç organ ağırlıkları, bazı kan parametreleri, bacak kemiği mukavemeti ve ham külü üzerine etkilerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada bir günlük yaşta toplam 400 adet Japon bıldırcını (Coturnix coturnix japonica) kullanılmış, hayvanlar eşit şekilde dört gruba ayrılarak her bölmede 20 bıldırcın olacak şekilde yerleştirilmiştir. Hayvanlar: Grup K kontrol diyeti; Grup Zn çinko ilaveli diyet (çinko katkısı 12 mg/kg diyet); Grup SC maya ilaveli diyet (SC 3 g/kg diyet) ve Grup ZnSC çinko+maya ilaveli diyet (çinko katkısı 12 mg+ SC 3 g/kg diyet) ile beslenmişlerdir. Deneme süresince bıldırcınlar 35 gün boyunca beslenmiş, performans değerleri belirlenmiştir. Kesim sırasında kan örnekleri alınmış, karkas özellikleri değerlendirilmiş ve but kemiğinin biyomekanik özellikleri elde edilmiştir.
