Abstract
Introduction: Disaster events have been occurring frequently in recent times and have caused significant losses in society. In this context, it is important for society to be prepared for disasters. To this end, it is important to manage the available human resources and assess the situation. Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the self-efficacy of first aid program students in responding to disasters. Method: This study was designed as a descriptive and cross-sectional research, and a total of 93 students enrolled in the first and emergency aid program at Trabzon University were included in the study. To collect data, a questionnaire containing socio-demographic findings and the Disaster Response Self-Efficacy Scale were used. Personal consent and a research permit (2025-7/1.9) from the scientific research and publication ethics committee were obtained to conduct the study. Findings: Within the scope of our study, the average level of first aid and emergency response program students on the AMÖYÖ (disaster response self-efficacy scale) was found to be 67.37. When the groups were examined within the scope of our study, it was determined that the AMÖYÖ sub-dimension and total score averages of those aged 22 and above were significantly higher than those aged 18-19 and 20-21 (p<.05). According to grade level, the total mean scores of YKY, AÜRNUY, and AMOYÖ for second-year students were significantly higher than those for first-year students (p<.05). When the groups were examined within the scope of our study, the total averages of YKY and AMÖYÖ for individuals whose fathers did not work were found to be significantly higher than those whose fathers were in professional and semi-professional occupations (p<.05). In our study, the AÜRNUY score averages of participants who stated that responsibility for disasters lies with the state and citizens were significantly higher than those who stated that responsibility for disasters lies solely with the state (p<.05). Conclusion: The results of this study show that first and emergency aid program students have good self-efficacy in disaster response.
