Abstract

The genus Axinella class Demospongiae, order Halichondrida, family Axinellidae contains approximately 20 species, distributed world-wide is known to be a source of a variety of secondary metabolites such as bromo compounds, cyclopeptides, polyethers, sterols, and terpenes. In this review the genus Axinella and some of the compounds isolated from this genus have been evaluated from the view point of biological activities including antimicrobial, cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities.
