Abstract

The study, it was aimed to determine the effect of the problem-based learning method integrated with visual arts on students' attitudes towards learning science through art activities. For this purpose, the unit of "Particulate Nature of Matter" in the 6th grade Science Teaching Program was adapted to the problem-based learning method integrated with visual arts. In the research, a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was used. The study group of the research consists of 46 students, 24 experimental and 22 control groups, who attend 6th grade in a primary school affiliated to İzmir Directorate of National Education. During the experimental application process that lasted for seven weeks, while the unit "Particulate Nature of Matter" was carried out with the students of the experimental group according to the visual arts-integrated problem-based learning method, the same unit with the control group students was taught according to the textbooks and activities determined by the Ministry of Education. In the study, "Attitude Scale of Science Learning through Art Activities" was used as a data collection tool. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that there was a positive significant difference in favor of the experimental group between the artistic activities of the students in the experimental and control groups and their attitudes towards science learning.
