Abstract

Health systems face multifaceted challenges such as aging populations, the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, rising healthcare costs, and growing patient demand. These pressures have made digital transformation processes essential for delivering healthcare services in a more efficient, sustainable, and patient-centered manner. Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, through methods such as big data analytics, machine learning, and deep learning, offer significant transformative potential for healthcare services. This study aims to examine the development of artificial intelligence technologies in health sciences and their primary application areas in healthcare services. Within the scope of the study, the digital transformation process in healthcare and the concept of smart hospitals are first discussed. Subsequently, the conceptual framework of artificial intelligence, its historical development, and its role in healthcare are evaluated. The study further explores the use of artificial intelligence in areas such as medical imaging, clinical decision support systems, disease prediction, and early diagnosis applications. AI-based healthcare technologies such as Koios DS, Caption Care, ExoAI, Sonio, Us2.ai, Qure.ai, and Infervision contribute significantly to improving diagnostic accuracy, accelerating clinical workflows, and enhancing the cost-effectiveness of healthcare services. However, issues such as data security, ethical responsibility, algorithmic bias, and regulatory gaps remain important challenges for the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence applications. Consequently, artificial intelligence is considered a strategic technology that enhances diagnostic accuracy in healthcare systems, supports clinical decision-making processes, and contributes to the development of the digital health ecosystem.
