Abstract

Aim:The purpose of this descriptive study was to determine seroprevalence of hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV among children aged 0-15 years whom were applied to Erciyes University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Pedodontics treated under general anesthesia. Materials and Methods:The children aged 0-15 whom were applied to Erciyes University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Pediatric Dentistry for dental treatment under genereal anestehesia and have routine blood test from Jan 2014 to June 2017, were included in the study. Test results were obtained from pediatric hospital for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs), hepatitis C antibody (anti-HCV) and HIV antigen-antibody (HIV Ag / Ab). Results: Only 2 (%0.0005) HBsAg positivity and 1 (%0.0005) anti-HCV positivity were detected in the study. There were no anti-HIV positive children in this study. Conclusions: The cases of hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV infection in Kayseri province and surrounding area, were lower than other related studies. It could be said that the increase of parents knowledge and national vaccination program run by Ministry of Health might have successful effect to reduce hepatitis B infection.
