Abstract

During the development of Islamic Turkish literature in Anatolia, many folk narratives in verse were composed to educate the people and preserve their religious sentiments. The Epic of the Decapitated Head (Kesik Baş Destanı), which tells the heroism of Ali, is one of these folk narratives in verse. It is known that the Epic of the Decapitated Head was written by Kirdeci Ali in the 14th century and there are many different copies of the epic. The Epic of the Decapitated Head, which is usually found in epic books with different stories, is sometimes included independently in magazines. The studied copy, composed of 111 couplets, by an unknown author and with an unknown date of printing, is registered among the Turkish manuscripts under the inventory ID 005753 III in the Library of the Department of Religious Affairs. The text was written in naskh with diacritical points, in 2 columns, with 11 lines on each page. The studied part is found between pages 21a and 26a of the manuscript. This study will focus on the orthography, phonetic and morphological features, and vocabulary of the Epic of the Decapitated Head upon its translation. We believe that such studies on the new copies of the epic, of which many copies have been identified and analyzed, will contribute to the composition of the full text of the epic.

Özet

Anadolu’da İslami dönem Türk edebiyatının oluşum sürecinde halkı eğitmek ve halkın dinî duygularını canlı tutmak amacıyla pek çok manzum halk anlatısı yazılmıştır. Hz.
