Abstract

First responders are exposed to various physical, physiological, and psychological hazards due to their profession. First responders are at high risk of injury and cardiovascular disease. To effectively respond to emergencies and prevent sudden injuries and cardiovascular complications that may arise during the mission, responders must possess a sufficient level of physical performance. Such challenging tasks prioritize health components such as cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition, while performance-based components such as agility, coordination, speed, and power are key. In addition to these variables, first responders must possess aerobic and anaerobic performance. A training program designed to improve physical fitness and physical performance should be designed in a modular manner, taking into account these parameters, the tasks and risk factors specific to the nature of the profession, and first responder training programs should be designed to improve physical fitness and physical performance. Expert guidance is needed in the implementation of these programs. A good relationship should be established between exercise professionals and first responders. To develop exercise programs for first responders, a collaborative protocol should be established with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Health, the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, and municipalities, and a jointly managed "First Responder Trainer" certification program should be established. As a result, performance evaluation positions trainers not only as trainers but also as quality control mechanisms. This structured and scientifically based process not only enhances the individual competencies of first responders but also directly strengthens the overall operational success of the organization.
