Abstract

Studies on the Hellenistic and Roman pottery of Miletos indicate that the city's tableware repertoire was not confined to ceramics produced in the Meander Valley. Imported wares from various production centres, together with locally produced imitations, also formed an important component of the assemblage. This study examines Pergamene tableware recovered at Miletos. The material was unearthed during excavations conducted between 1959 and 1963 in areas west of the Bouleuterion, southwest of the Temple of Athena, and near the southern city wall. Previously published Pergamene ceramics from Hellenistic and Roman contexts at Miletos are also incorporated into the analysis. The assemblage comprises appliqué relief ware, West Slope Successor Style pottery, Hellenistic Pergamene Sigillata, and Roman Eastern Sigillata C (ESC). The material is evaluated typologically and chronologically, while macroscopic observations are used to assess its provenance. The results provide new evidence for the extent of Pergamene influence on the tableware repertoire of Miletos.
