Abstract

This study examines poster designs created to draw attention to endangered animal species. The posters were evaluated in terms of their function as tools of graphic design for raising social awareness. Within this context, the concept of social innovation was addressed as a communication-based approach aimed at enhancing environmental awareness, while artificial intelligence (AI) was employed as an experimental tool for interpreting the posters. The research involved the design of seven posters, each representing a different animal species, developed using distinct narrative approaches in line with their graphic language and intended message. In the second phase of the study, a uniform text-based description prompt was applied to all posters to ensure consistent AI outputs. This allowed for the analysis of the posters according to a common criterion, though the method reflected the unique narratives of each design only to a limited extent. The AI generated descriptive texts for each poster by considering visual and semantic elements, focusing on the theme, symbols, and conveyed message. This process provided insights into how AI perceives and interprets artistic content. The study offers an innovative approach to visualizing environmental issues through AI-assisted interpretations, presenting a new perspective on the perception of poster design while also demonstrating the potential of AI in artistic production. Nevertheless, the method should be evaluated within the framework of AI’s current limitations.
