Abstract

With the growing world population, ensuring food security along with food accessibility has become a problem in itself. Lentils, one of the high-energy legumes rich in thiamine, iron, phosphorus, copper, and Vitamin C, with a content of 75% carbohydrates, 21% protein, and 4% fat, are affected by some fungal disease agents that limit production and yield. In order to detect this fungal flora observed in post-harvest storage conditions, a total of 11 different lentil seed samples were examined, consisting of 5 samples from 2022 and 6 samples from 2024, stored in open piles in the districts of Merkez, Besni, and Kâhta in the province of Adıyaman. Fungal isolates were obtained from these seeds using the Blotter and PDA methods, and they were identified using morphological and microscopic techniques. At the end of the study, fungal flora content determined using the Blotter method showed that 14% of the contaminated seeds contained Aspergillus spp. (37%), Penicillium spp. (33%), Rhizopus stolonifer (21%), and Fusarium spp. (9%) were detected in the fungal flora isolated using the Blotter method, while Aspergillus spp. (42%), Penicillium spp. (29%), R. stolonifer (22%), and Fusarium spp. (7%) were detected in the isolates obtained from seeds with 11% contamination using the PDA method. These results obtained from Adıyaman province are indicative for additional studies to be conducted for the control of lentil microflora.
