Abstract

Thermoacoustics is a combined science concerned with the conversion of sound energy into heat energy or vice versa. Thermoacoustic technology is a new and emerging technology with strong potential for the development of sustainable energy technologies. Although its fabrication is simple, the design of thermoacoustic devices is quite challenging. In this study, acoustically driven, standing wave, quarter-wavelength, fixed-diameter resonator TAR, using PLA as stack material, was simulated using the DeltaEC program. Parameters such as operating frequency, working fluid, drive ratio, and resonator diameter, which are necessary for the design, were selected by the researchers in accordance with the relevant literature. The simulation investigated the effects of varying cooling load and stack center position relative to the acoustic driver on system performance (COP) and relative system performance (COPR). The variation of the cooling load with respect to the center of the stack position was also investigated. The findings show that the COP value increases linearly with increasing cooling load; The relative system performance shows a parabolic increase up to a certain value as the cooling load increases, and then a parabolic decrease after that value. Furthermore, it shows that as the center of the stack moves away from the acoustic driver, the COP value decreases linearly, while the COPR value increases parabolically up to a certain value, and then decreases parabolically again. It was observed that as the center of the stack moves away from the acoustic driver, the cooling load increases parabolically up to a certain value, and then decreases parabolically again after that value. The results obtained have shown that using stack materials made from PLA could be an alternative to other stack materials.
