Abstract

: In a globalized world, comparing native language teacher training programs is crucial for improving and developing education systems. However, studies directly comparing the programs in Türkiye, the UK, and Hong Kong are limited. The aim of this study is to compare the curriculum elements of mother tongue teacher training programmes at Gazi University in Türkiye, University College London in England, Hong Kong University of Education in China. Teacher training programs for native languages in each country, as well as theses and articles published on this subject, have been used as documentation. The research was designed with a holistic multiple case design and horizontal approach, and the data selected with purposeful criterion sampling was collected using the document analysis technique of the qualitative method. The findings show that Türkiye and Hong Kong prioritise national objectives, while the UK emphasises universal objectives. Entry and graduation requirements in the UK and Hong Kong are similar, whereas in Türkiye entry requirements are limited to centralised examinations and secondary school grades and are based on graduation GPA. The employment process in the UK and Hong Kong is based on local recruitment, while in Türkiye it is based on a centralised examination and interview. İn this research, by comparing teacher training programs of three different countries, it was aimed to provide different perspectives to the literature, program makers and implementers, and suggestions were presented in the light of the findings. In the light of the findings, it is recommended that multiple criteria can be adopted in the selection and admission of prospective teachers.
