Abstract

The objective of this study is to adapt the Short Form of the Attentional Control Scale into Turkish and to examine its validity and reliability among high school students. The study was conducted with 708 students attending secondary education institutions in İzmir. Data was collected using the Short Form of the Attentional Control Scale, the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-Short Form, the Adolescent Self-Regulatory Inventory, and a Personal Information Form. Construct validity was examined through confirmatory factor analysis, while convergent and discriminant validity were assessed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The findings indicated that the two-factor model of the scale provided a good fit. The Short Form of the Attentional Control Scale correlated positively with the Self-Regulation Success Subscale of the Adolescent Self-Regulatory Inventory, and negatively with the Short Form of the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale and the Self-Regulation Failure Subscale of the Adolescent Self-Regulatory Inventory, confirming its convergent and discriminant validity. Measurement invariance of the scale across gender was tested, and configural, metric, scalar, and partial strong and strict invariance were established. Within the framework of the scale's reliability studies, it was determined that the Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was .80, while the composite reliability coefficient was .96. Additionally, the test-retest reliability coefficient was found to be .84. The findings confirm that the Turkish version of the Attentional Control Scale Short Form can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool for adolescents.
