The theory of âacceptance and rejected of children by the familyâ is a socialization theory and itâs purpose is predicting and explaining the reasons, conclusions and related concepts of parentâs attitudes of acceptance and refusal of their children (Kasuto 2005). Rohner and Britner (2002), found relations between parental acceptance and refusal to various mental health problems in a review gathering the conclusions of studies. (gtd. In. Toran, 2005). The purpose of this research is to examine the relation between motherâs acceptance and rejected levels of their children and childrenâs emphatic skills. The sample of the study consists of 387 pupils of Elementary School of Mustafa Gumuş ve Cemal Gursel located in Gaziosmanpasa and Elementary School of Ali Fuat Cebesoy in Uskudar. All children were chosen randomly from the 4.,5.,6. grades of the relevant schools.

Ailenin çocuğa karşı kabul ve red tutumlarının sebeplerini, sonuçlarını ve ilişkili olduğu kavramları tahmin etme ve açıklamayı amaçlayan bir sosyalleşme teorisi olan âAilenin Çocuğu Kabullenme ve Reddetme Teorisiâ, ebeveyn çocuk etkileşimine çok yönlü bir bakış açısı kazandırmıştır (Kasuto, 2005). Kültürler arası ve kültürler içi çalışmalarında Rohner ve Britner (2002 Akt. Toran 2005) ailenin çocuğu reddetmesi ile çeşitli akıl sağlığı sorunları arasında korelasyon saptamışlardır. Sözkonusu sorunlar, depresyon ve depresif davranışlar, davranış bozukluğu, dışa vurum davranışları ve suç işleme gibi davranış problemleridir. Ailenin çocukla etkileşimi, çocuğun birebir davranışlarına yansıyacak kadar etkilidir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, annelerin kabul- red düzeyleri ile çocuklarının empati becerisi arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Araştırmanın örneklemini ise İstanbul ili Gaziosmanpaşa ilçesi Mustafa Gümüş ve Cemal Gürsel İlköğretim Okullarıâ nın ve Üsküdar ilçesi Ali Fuat Cebesoy İlköğretim Okuluâ nun 4., 5. ve 6. sınıflarına devam eden 387 öğrenci oluşturmuştur.
