Abstract
The Presidency of Religious Affairs (DİB), which carries out publishing activities in the field of religious education in Turkey, plays an important role in conveying religious and moral values through the works it prepares for children. This study aims to evaluate the books published by the DIB, “Learning with Ḥadīth Series” (ages 4-6) and “40 Prayers for Children with Stories” (ages 7 and up), from the perspectives of ḥadīth science and pedagogy. Using document analysis, the study examined the sources of the ḥadīths in the works, their authenticity, textual integrity, and suitability for children's developmental characteristics. According to the findings, most of the six ḥadīths in the “Learning with Ḥadīths Series” are based on authentic sources and are presented in a pedagogically appropriate manner for the 4-6 age group through concrete narratives and stories. However, in one book in the series, the combination of narrations compiled from different sources as if they were a single ḥadīth and the use of an abstract metaphor were found to be problematic in terms of both the integrity of the ḥadīth and the comprehension capacity of the age group. The twenty-three ḥadīths in the book Stories with 40 Prayers for Children are generally suitable for ages 7 and up; however, it has been concluded that some ḥadīths containing abstract or negative concepts such as the attributes of Allah, punishment in the afterlife, treachery, and hypocrisy require careful presentation and pedagogical explanations. The study highlights the importance of considering the fundamental principles of ḥadīth science (citation of sources, textual integrity, consideration of context) together with pedagogical principles (age appropriateness, concretization, use of positive language) when preparing ḥadīth-based content for children.
