Abstract

Navel orange clones no. 3 (Mersin), no. 38 (Antalya), no. 39 (Antalya) selected from different regions in the "Selection-Certification and Development of Citrus Varieties" project carried out between 1984 and 2005 and KKTC-13 clone selected from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and navel orange varieties such as Navelate, BATEM Fatihi, Tule Gold were used which were planted on local sour orange and Troyer citrange rootstocks as virus-free. Fruit quality criteria were investigated in the 3-year period between 2014 and 2016. Because of pomological analyses, fruit weight varies according to varieties/clones and rootstocks. The largest fruits were obtained from clones 38 (283.64 g) and 3 (283.50 g). Although the effect of rootstock on peel thickness was found to be statistically insignificant, the thickest fruit peel was found in the Navelate variety grafted on Troyer citrange rootstock, and the thinnest fruit peel were found in the BATEM Fatihi variety grafted on the same rootstock. Only differences were found among the varieties in terms of % juice amount, and the highest juice amount was determined in the BATEM Fatihi variety (% 49.29). In general, citrus rootstocks significantly affect the internal and external quality parameters of the fruit. Considering the soil and climate conditions, Troyer citrange rootstock, which is known to be resistant to Tristeza virus disease (CTV), can be considered as an alternative to Sour orange rootstock in newly established plantations.
