Abstract

Vallecular cysts are rare mucosal lesions that are often asymptomatic. However, they may cause significant airway management difficulties, especially during invasive procedures such as endotracheal intubation. A wide spectrum of airway management difficulties related to these cysts has been reported, ranging from difficulty with mask ventilation to failed intubation and even the need for emergency tracheotomy. When an unanticipated difficult airway caused by an asymptomatic vallecular cyst is encountered, determining the optimal management strategy may pose a significant clinical dilemma. In this case, we aimed to present successful airway management with videolaryngoscopy in a patient who underwent general anesthesia for an elective surgical procedure and in whom a vallecular cyst was incidentally detected during intubation.
