Abstract

As a result of globalization, foreign direct investments (FDI) increase the production level of countries and improve the development of foreign trade. This study analyzes the effects of foreign direct investment on trade and contributes to the literature by examining the impact of FDI on foreign trade between 1970 and 2023 for Türkiye. The variables used in the study include real net foreign direct investment inflows, real exports, and real imports. The relationship between exports-FDI and imports-FDI is analyzed using the Fourier Toda-Yamamoto (FTY) causality (2016,2019) method. According to the results of the FTY causality test, a one-way causality relationship is found, indicating that real exports and real imports have a unidirectional causality effect on FDI inflows. In addition, there is a one-way causality from real imports to real exports. This result emphasizes the dependence on exports on imports.

Özet

Küreselleşmenin etkisiyle, doğrudan yabancı yatırımlar (DYY), ülkelerin üretim seviyesini artırırken dış ticaretin de gelişmesini sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışma, DYY’ın ticaret üzerindeki etkilerini Türkiye için analiz etmekte ve 1970-2023 yılları arasında DYY’ın dış ticaret üzerindeki etkisini inceleyerek literatüre katkı sağlamaktadır. Çalışmada kullanılacak değişkenler, reel net doğrudan yabancı yatırım girişleri, reel ihracat ve reel ithalattır. İhracat-DYY ve ithalat-DYY arasındaki ilişki Fourier Toda-Yamamoto (FTY) nedensellik (2016,2019) yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. FTY nedensellik testi sonuçlarına göre, reel ihracat ve reel ithalatın doğrudan DYY girişleri üzerinde tek yönlü nedensellik ilişkisi gösterdiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca reel ithalattan reel ihracata doğru tek yönlü bir nedensellik bulunmaktadır. Bu sonuç ihracatın ithalata bağımlılığını vurgulamaktadır.
