Abstract

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the perspectives and stress levels of the second year preclinical dentistry students of Çankırı Karatekin University Faculty of Dentistry about the restorative dental treatment practice course. Method: The study included 61 preclinical dentistry students who were in the second year of the faculty of dentistry of a state university in Turkey. After the spring semester of the 2021-2022 academic year (October 03-October 07, 2022), a questionnaire consisting of 10 questions was applied to preclinical students to evaluate their perspectives on the restorative dental treatment practice course and their stress levels. In order for the students to be comfortable while answering the survey questions, name and surname information was not requested. Frequency analysis and chi-square test were performed to evaluate the study data. Significance level was determined as p<0.05. Results: A total of sixty-one students, 29 of whom were female and 32 of whom were boys, participated in the study. The participation rate of the students in the study was determined as 100%. The majority of preclinical students (52.46%) emphasized that they experienced stress during restorative dental treatment practice courses. Students reported that they are happy with the duration of the course, the feedback they received from their trainers, the level of knowledge they gained in the course, the role of their trainers in increasing their clinical knowledge and skills. Conclusion: This study is a study conducted to evaluate restorative dental treatment preclinical education in Turkey. In order to make the lessons more productive, the students’ views on the lessons should be evaluated and necessary updates should be made accordingly. We think that in the future, comprehensive studies involving more dental faculties will be beneficial.
