Abstract

The volcanic rocks in the Yuntdağı Region (Manisa–Muradiye) represents the calc-alkaline products of the Early–Middle Miocene magmatism in Western Anatolia. This study systematically investigates the mineralogical, petrographic, and geochemical characteristics of the regional volcanics in order to elucidate their magma source and evolutionary mechanisms. Petrographic data indicate that the rocks are predominantly andesitic to dacitic in composition and display porphyritic to hypocrystalline textures, with plagioclases, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, amphibole, and biotite as the dominant mineral phases. Geochemical results reveal a high-K calc-alkaline affinity; systematic decreases in Fe₂O₃, MgO, CaO, MnO, and TiO₂ with increasing SiO₂ highlight the significant role of fractional crystallization during magmatic evolution. Trace element patterns show pronounced enrichment in Large Ion Lithophile Elements (LILE) and marked Nb–Ta–Ti–P negative anomalies, indicating a lithospheric mantle source metasomatized by subduction-related processes. Rare Earth Element (REE) distributions are characterized by enrichment of Light Rare Earth Elements (LREE) relative to Heavy Rare Earth Elements (HREE) and display coherent patterns across the volcanic units. The geochemical characteristics suggest that the magmas were derived from partial melting of a subduction-modified lithospheric mantle source and evolved mainly through fractional crystallization processes.
