Abstract

It can be proposed that attachment theory has been examined as a general personality theory in the literature (Pielage, Gerlsma & Schaap, 2000). The studies concerning with childhood attachment styles have generally focused on emotional and social development, thus, on the development of psychopathology. The studies related to adulthood attachment styles have dealt with two topics: Social relationships and coping strategies. However, investigating attachment styles within the framework of information processing has not gained much attention. Literature review concerned with the relationship between information processing and attachment styles resulted in only 19 articles (Psychlnfo and SSCI). The aim of the current study is to examine the interplay between cognitive processes or constructs and attachment theory that offer a meaningful framework to understand ourselves and the world.
