Abstract

Objective: Breastfeeding (BF) is important in reducing infant mortality and morbidity. Compliance with hygiene rules when preparing BF or preparing for breastfeeding is important in preventing infections that may develop. In this study, we aimed to investigate the satisfaction of mothers after breastfeeding and hygiene education (BHE) in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Method: The study was conducted between January 2016 and January 2017 at Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital (SUEAH) NICU. After ethical approval, mothers of inpatients in the NICU were given ASHE video training. After the training, volunteer mothers were asked to fill out the interview form. Demographic questions about the age and education of the mother and questions about the satisfaction of the video training were asked in the interview form. In the satisfaction level assessment, the lowest satisfaction score was 0 and the highest satisfaction score was 10. The data obtained were analyzed in SPSS 21 program, p <0.05 was considered significant Results: The mean age of the 538 mothers was 28.1 ± 5.7 (17-45) years. According to their educational background, 269 (50%) were primary school graduates, 206 (38.3%) high school graduates and 63 (11.7%) university graduates. The mean satisfaction level was 9.7 ± 0.9 (0-10). Satisfaction was also found to increase with age (p = 0.049, r = 0.085). Conclusion: Mothers can be trained with simple training methods and standardized trainings can also be used to improve the quality of mother and child care.

Özet

Amaç: Anne sütü (AS) ile beslenme, bebek mortalite ve morbidite sini azaltmada önemlidir. AS’yi hazırlarken veya anne emzirmeye hazırlanırken hijyen kurallarına uyması gelişebilecek enfeksiyonların önlenmesinde önemlidir.
