Abstract

The aim of this research is to uncover the thoughts of students enrolled in graduate programs in the field of counseling regarding the concept of wellness present in the philosophy, origins, and definition of the field. For this purpose, six open-ended questions were asked to 181 graduate students reached via Google document, and the qualitative data obtained were evaluated through thematic analysis. According to the findings of the research, while participants are familiar with the concept of wellness, some are not clear about its importance in the counseling profession.. Participants describe their wellness as good and use different ways to enhance it. Students believe that faculty members serve as role models for them to varying degrees regarding wellness and exhibit behaviors that increase wellness in a non-systematic manner. Finally, participants indicate that the education received contributes to their personal and professional development, and thus to certain aspects of their wellness. The findings have been discussed according to the literature and some suggestions have been presented.
