Abstract

Person-environment fit is one of the important concepts in organizational psychology. Studies showed that fit between an employee and different levels of environment- organization, job, group or supervisor- are related to important job behaviors such as job satisfaction, organizational commitment, organizational citizenship behavior, stress, and turnover. Those behaviors are important to predict in the workplace, so measuring person-environment fit and identifying the behaviors related to fit has been attracted attention. In this literature review, studies about person-environment fit has been examined and important issues like definition of fit, theoretical approaches, different perspectives and levels of fit, measurement techniques of fit and variables that are related to fit has been discussed. In this framework, general evaluation has been done about the practical use of fit in organizational processes and some important questions that need to be searched in future studies were mentioned in this paper.
