Abstract

The purpose of this study is testing the validity and reliability of Need for Cognitive Closure Scale (NFCS) Turkish version. Tr-NFCS, Social Dominance Orientation Scale (SDOS), Intolerance for Uncertainity Scale (IUS) and Authoritarian Personality Scale (APS) is were applied to total 721 university students. Then three weeks later test-retest application was performed with a separate group of 67 participants. In data analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient, Pearson product moment correlation coefficient were used. According to the findings of the reliability and validity analysis, the scale was found to be adequate to use in Turkish language. The goodness of fit indices of two confirmatory factor analysis indicate that the Turkish version of the scale fit to Kruglanski’s five -dimensional original model. Tr-NFCS internal consistency coefficients of the subscales ranged between .60 and .78; test-retest coefficients varied between .74 and .92. SDOS, IUS and APS also has been shown significant relationships with the Tr-NFCS.Tr-NFCS validity findings have demonstrated the scale has concurrent validity. As a final conclusion, it would seem from the results of this study that the Turkish version of the NFCS meets acceptable levels of validity and reliability.
