Abstract

This study aims to compare the pre-school education systems of Türkiye and Italy in terms of their objectives, content, educational approaches and evaluation processes. Document analysis, a qualitative research method, was used to examine the programmes ‘Türkiye Century Education Model’ from Türkiye and ‘Indicazioni Nazionali per il Curricolo’ from Italy. While the Italian system focuses on individual development, autonomy, citizenship awareness and compliance with European Union norms, the Turkish system emphasises national identity, social cohesion and basic skills. The study considered the objectives, content, educational situations and assessment methods as the main components, revealing the strengths and weaknesses of the two systems. The findings show that Italy stands out with its flexible educational environments and innovative approaches that support creative thinking, whereas Türkiye focuses on structured learning areas and the transmission of national values. In terms of assessment, Italy favours inclusive and formative methods, whereas Türkiye relies on traditional examinations. In conclusion, although both systems have developed in accordance with their respective socio-cultural and economic conditions, there are areas in which they could learn from each other. It is recommended that Türkiye emphasises individual creativity and critical thinking, and that Italy emphasises social values.
