Abstract

In the study, the Panzar - Rosse (1987) model was estimated with the help of 2009Q4-2019Q3 data to determine the competitiveness of the Turkish insurance industry and companies operating in the sector. In order to analyze the effects of structural changes in the Turkish insurance industry on the market structure, the Panzar - Rosse (1987) model has been estimated separately for the 2009Q4-2013Q4 and 2014Q4-2019Q3 periods. Two different Panzar - Rosse models, in which dependent variable is net premium and net income, have been formulated and estimated. The results show that the current market structure of the Turkish insurance market is characterized as monopolistic competition.
