Abstract

Play exists at every stage of life. It can even be said that human beings are born into play. On the other hand, in childhood, which is the most special period of human beings, there are many developments that shape adult life. In this respect, the games played in this special period are unforgettable and remain as a memory. Children's games have an important place in terms of ensuring both physical and psychological development of children. In addition to having fun during the game, children socialise by experiencing many different emotions such as defence, defeating the opponent and developing new moves to win. The game contributes to children's language development as well as enabling them to play more systematically thanks to nursery rhymes. In this article, an overview of children's games in Ankara will be presented based on the data provided by informants from three different generations who spent their childhood in different neighbourhoods of Ankara. The reason for conducting such a study is to shed light on the daily life of Ankara as well as the differences in play between generations. As a result of the field research, it has been revealed that the oral games or rhymes included in this study are no longer alive. Another issue that the informants shared with the researcher is the fact that the toys and the way of life that existed in their childhood but are not present today have disappeared while they were telling about the games filtered from their childhood memories. According to the researcher, this is because toys are silent witnesses of childhood and in this respect they are historical documents. It is not only the toy that is nostalgic, but also the longing for childhood. The most important reason for this transformation is the urban change that Ankara has undergone. The effects of this change are especially related to the neoliberal effects that come along with modernisation. In order to reveal how children's games and toys are affected by the urban change in Ankara, a total of 17 informants from three different generations were interviewed, in-depth interviews were conducted and a literature review was conducted. In order to both measure the consistency of the information given by the informants about play and toy culture and to share it with the reader, childhood albums were examined in accordance with the permission of the in formants and one of them used in the text.

Özet

Oyun, hayatın her evresinde vardır.
