Abstract

This article provides an analysis of the factors underlying the remarkable development success of Singapore, which achieved a significant economic transformation within a relatively short period of time. Having remained under British colonial rule for many years, Singapore developed development strategies after independence that were compatible with the country’s economic realities and long-term projections. Since gaining independence in 1965, Singapore has maintained a process of continuous and relatively stable economic growth and, despite being affected by global crises, has produced solutions consistent with its own economic system. The article examines Singapore’s economic growth performance through an analysis of the country’s economic indicators within the framework of the developmental state approach, which constitutes the theoretical basis of the study. In this context, the study discusses the developmental state model underlying the growth achievements of several Southeast and East Asian countries, focusing particularly on Singapore as one of the most successful examples of this policy orientation. The findings of the article demonstrate that foreign direct investment, technological investments, and research and development (R&D) activities have played a crucial role in Singapore’s economic growth. In addition, the study concludes that the effective implementation of education policies, the strict enforcement of laws, and the prevention of corruption have been highly influential in the country’s development process.
