Abstract

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a therapeutic approach that belongs to the third generation of cognitive behavioral therapy theories. This therapeutic approach has gained significant interest due to its extensive range of applications. The efficacy of this theoretical framework is evidenced by its wide-ranging applications across contexts, including psychosis and daily living challenges, provided that psychological flexibility is a contributing factor. ACT has recently been applied in Türkiye in similar ways across different contexts and samples. The objective of this study is to examine ACT group interventions applied to adult samples in Türkiye. In this regard, the present study evaluated the applications of acceptance and commitment therapy groups in Türkiye between 2020 and 2025 according to the PRISMA criteria. The evaluation encompassed various aspects, including sample characteristics, intervention methods, duration, frequency, measurement tools, and changes. As a result of searching Scopus, Web of Science, PsycArticles, and TrDizin databases, 11 research articles were included in the study. Psychological resilience, psychological flexibility, impulsivity, fear of negative evaluation, social appearance anxiety, and self-compassion level are among the variables targeted for change in the intervention programs in the studies. It is observed that the sample characteristics of the groups included in the study are not limited to university students but also parents and individuals with psychiatric diagnoses. Despite differences in content and implementation, it is seen that group interventions based on the basic principles of acceptance and commitment therapy are effective in different adult samples. The current study provides an opportunity to evaluate and compare current acceptance and commitment therapy group practices implemented in different contexts in Türkiye. Evaluating intervention programs together may provide researchers with temporal and economic advantages in designing future intervention programs.
