For Turks, the Turkification of religious terminology is not a new phenomenon. Indeed, the religious vocabulary, traceable from the earliest written documents of the Turkish language, reflects not only the society's understanding of religion but also allows for the tracking of developments in socio-cultural life. Throughout history, Turks, influenced by various religions and belief systems, have followed different paths in incorporating concepts from these new cultural spheres into their own language. Sometimes they resorted to creating new terms, and sometimes they used words already existing in the language. In fact, accurate and complete translation of sacred texts is of critical importance. An incorrect or incomplete translation would damage the uniqueness of the text. The first interlinear Turkish translations of the Quran, written using a word-for-word translation method, maintain their uniqueness in that each Arabic word is accompanied by its Turkish equivalent. This study examines the formation and development of Turkish religious terminology from a semantic perspective. Türkler için dinî terimleri Türkçeleştirmek yeni bir olgu değildir. Nitekim Türkçenin ilk yazılı belgelerinden itibaren tespit edilebilen dinî söz varlığı, toplumun din anlayışını yansıtmasının yanı sıra sosyo-kültürel hayattaki gelişmeleri takip edebilmeyi de sağlamaktadır. Tarih boyunca çeşitli dinlerin ve inanç sistemlerinin etkisinde kalan Türkler, bu yeni kültür dairesine ait kavramları kendi dillerine dâhil ederken farklı yollar izlemişlerdir. Kimi zaman yeni terim üretme yollarına başvurmuş kimi zaman da dilde hâlihazırda var olan kelimeleri kullanmışlardır. Nitekim kutsal metin çevirilerinde anlamın doğru ve tam aktarılması kritik bir önem taşımaktadır. Öyle ki yanlış veya eksik bir aktarım, metnin kutsallığına zarar verecektir. Kelime kelime çeviri metoduyla yazılan satır arası ilk Türkçe Kur’ân tercümeleri, Arapça her kelimenin altında Türkçe karşılığının yer alması bakımından söz konusu ilahi aktarımı korumaktadır. Eldeki çalışmada Türkçe dinî terminolojinin oluşumu ve gelişimi anlam bilim (semantik) yönünden incelenerek diller arası çeviride Türkçenin anlatım gücü ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır. İslam Eserleri Müzesi 73 numarada kayıtlı satır arası Türkçe Kur’ân tercümesinde yer alan Bakara suresindeki dinî terimler kapsam alanlarına göre tam kapsam, bütünleşik/birleşik kapsam ve çoklu kapsam olmak üzere üç başlık altında incelenmiştir.
