Abstract

Health tourism, which is included in the strategic plans of many countries, has an important place in Türkiye. With the Health Transformation Program in Türkiye, significant progress has been made to develop health tourism. In health tourism, intermediary organizations that can act on behalf of the service recipients and provide service logistics play an important role. Therefore, the recent development of intermediary organizations has increased the need for an in-depth look at their decisive role in the health tourism sector. For this reason, the study is conducted to determine the expectations of intermediary organizations operating in health tourism and their perspectives on their position and role in the sector. In the study, a phenomenological design, one of the qualitative research approaches, was used. The study includes 21 organization officials who have a Health Tourism Authorization Certificate and are Health Türkiye partners and who agree to participate in the study voluntarily. The study is conducted by the researcher via telephone using a semi-structured interview form between June and November 2024. The data obtained from the interviews are subjected to content analysis. In line with the interviews, 3 main themes and 9 sub-themes are formed. During the interviews, participants view their roles in health tourism as more of a bridge, indicating that they felt more a part of the Ministry of Health as a sector. Furthermore, the intermediary organizations in the study emphasize that they face certain challenges in fulfilling their roles and that improvements are necessary for the future of the sector.
