Abstract

Political parties experience change and transformation processes due to the dynamic nature of ideological identity. In this context, it is assumed that the dynamic nature of ideological identity is important in the change and transformation of political parties, specifically in the Justice and Development Party (AK Party). Based on the example of the AK Party, the changes and transformations experienced in the ideological identities that dominate political parties are revealed on the basis of continuities, ruptures and representation. The aim of the study is to determine the main sources of the ideological change and transformation experienced in the AK Party and to determine the place of the transformation experienced with emphasis on representation on the ideological ground. The study is designed as both qualitative and quantitative research. It is aimed to obtain detailed information with the research topic that is analyzed in depth with the research questions. The changes evaluated with the scanning method are evaluated with the document analysis method on the party programs and statute, specifically in the AK Party, which is taken as a sample. The findings show that during the AK Party's rule; it is revealed that the change in political discourse and policies, which started with conservative democracy and came to the line of “one homeland, one flag, one state, one nation”, is an ideological change and transformation.
