Abstract

Relocated settlements have emerged as a prominent research topic over the last few decades. Previous studies conducted globally and in Türkiye have largely adopted descriptive approaches based on a limited number of settlements. This article examines the spatial relationships between old and new settlement areas in Türkiye that have been relocated for various reasons, using a holistic approach based on 1:25,000-scale topographic maps. Thus, the spatial characteristics of relocated settlements in Türkiye have been determined. The findings indicate that settlements generally relocated short distances toward lower-altitude areas to the south, southeast, and southwest. In Türkiye, a country prone to disasters, natural factors that cause regional destruction, such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides, as well as human factors such as transportation, mining, and dam construction, have been found to be decisive in settlement relocation. In addition, less commonly reported causes of relocation in the literature have been identified.

Özet

Yer değiştiren yerleşmeler son birkaç on yılda üzerinde en sık durulan konu başlıklarından birini oluşturmaktadır.
