Abstract

With the increasing prevalence of digital workflows in dentistry, three-dimensional printing technology has been incorporated into computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing techniques. This technology, which is gradually replacing subtractive manufacturing methods, accelerates treatment processes in dentistry and enables clinically satisfactory outcomes by offering patient-specific designs and high-precision solutions. The use of materials produced with three-dimensional printing technology in implant-supported fixed prostheses has recently emerged as a new application in prosthetic dental treatment. Initially utilized to create models and custom impression trays in implant-supported fixed prostheses, this technology has increasingly been adopted to fabricate temporary and permanent restorations, particularly through the vat photopolymerization method using photopolymer resins. Studies conducted in this field have demonstrated the successful performance of photopolymer resins, thereby enhancing their applicability in implant-supported fixed prostheses. However, due to the novelty of both the method and the materials, current literature provides limited data regarding their ability to fully meet the requirements of the oral environment. Nevertheless, ongoing advancements in three-dimensional and four-dimensional printing technologies offer promising prospects for addressing these concerns in future studies. This review presents current literature on vat photopolymerization printing technology and photopolymer resins in implant-supported fixed prostheses.
