Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to adapt the Career Sustainability Scale to Turkish and examine its validity and reliability properties. Accordingly, the study evaluates the suitability of the scale for the Turkish cultural context and academic work environment, aiming to provide the literature with a valid and reliable measurement tool for assessing academics’ career sustainability levels. Method: The sample of the study consisted of 413 academics working at different public and foundation universities in Türkiye. During the adaptation process, the scale was translated into Turkish, linguistic validity was ensured, and the final version of the scale was developed based on expert evaluations. Data were collected through an online survey method. The construct validity of the scale was examined using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, while reliability analyses were evaluated through Cronbach’s alpha coefficients. Results: The results of the exploratory factor analysis revealed a three-factor structure in the Turkish adaptation of the scale. The Confirmatory Factor Analysis results indicated that the model fit indices were within acceptable limits. The overall Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the scale was calculated as 0.74, while the reliability coefficients of the sub-dimensions were determined as 0.738, 0.670, and 0.744, respectively. In addition, the AVE and CR values calculated within the scope of convergent validity supported the construct validity of the scale. Conclusion and Recommendations: The findings demonstrate that the Turkish version of the Career Sustainability Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool for evaluating the career sustainability of academics. Future studies may apply the scale to different occupational groups and sectors, contributing to a broader understanding of the concept of career sustainability across diverse samples.
