Abstract

This study aims to examine the conceptual terminology of the Alevî-Bektashi culture from a pedagogical perspective and to reveal the intersections between this tradition and modern educational sciences. Conducted within the framework of qualitative research methodology, the study adopts a document analysis design, using Gökbel’s (2019) Encyclopedic Dictionary of Alevî-Bektashi Terms as its primary data source. The terms in the dictionary were analyzed through document analysis, and conceptually related terms were thematically categorized into five main themes: (1) spiritual maturation and individual education, (2) the pedagogy of knowledge, wisdom, and enlightenment, (3) guidance and instructional roles, (4) moral, ethical, and behavioral education, and (5) social and moral solidarity education. The findings indicate that the thought and culture emerging within the Alevî-Bektashi tradition offer an educational system that approaches the human being not merely as a cognitive entity, but holistically, encompassing their moral, emotional, and social dimensions, and not limited solely to their physical existence, but also including their spiritual/metaphysical dimension. Within this system, concepts such as ikrar (initiation), tövbe (repentance), muhasebe (self-reflection), hizmet (service), rızalık (consent), edep (virtue), and marifet (experiential knowledge) demonstrate strong parallels with modern pedagogical approaches such as self-regulation, reflective learning, character education, and social-emotional learning. The study concludes that the knowledge-, virtue-, and responsibility-centered structure of Alevî-Bektashi pedagogy offers a distinctive ethical framework that can contribute to contemporary educational paradigms.

Özet

Bu araştırma, Alevî-Bektaşî kültürünün kavramsal terminolojisini pedagojik açıdan inceleyerek, bu geleneğin modern eğitim bilimleriyle kesişen yönlerini ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Nitel araştırma metodolojisi içinde yer alan doküman imcelemesi modeline dayalı olarak yürütülen çalışmada, temel veri kaynağını Gökbel’in (2019) Ansiklopedik Alevî-Bektaşî Terimleri Sözlüğü oluşturmuştur.
