Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of digital transformation on the financial performance indicators of deposit banks (Akbank, Garanti Bankası, Vakıf Bank, Halk Bankası, İş Bankası and Yapı Kredi Bankası) operating in Borsa İstanbul (BIST) between 2009-2024 using panel data analysis method. To assess the impact of digital transformation, the ratio of digital banking customers to total customers and the ratio of loans to total assets were selected as independent variables. Return on assets ratio (ROA) and return on equity ratio (ROE), which show the financial performance of banks, were selected as dependent variables and the findings were evaluated by establishing two different models. The results indicate that the ratio of digital banking customers to total customers has a significant and positive effect on both ROA and ROE. This suggests that digital transformation contributes to cost reduction and enhances bank profitability. Conversely, the loan-to-total-assets ratio was found to have a significant and negative effect on both financial performance indicators, indicating that higher loan intensity may adversely impact profitability.
