Abstract

This research explores students' perspectives on the advantages of participating in extracurricular activities. These additional activities, such as social, academic, and artistic pursuits that students choose to engage in beyond regular classes, promote well-rounded development. The study employed a survey model and utilized the "Scale for Participation in Extracurricular Activities” which included 13 items, to collect data from 690 students aged 12 to 18 in middle and high schools. Moreover, students were asked to share their views on the benefits of the extracurricular activities, which were further analyzed through descriptive analysis. The findings indicated that students rated the extra curriculum as "moderately" helpful, with a score of 3.24. They also acknowledged that the curriculum enhanced their social, academic, physical, emotional, and personality development and well-being. Furthermore, students' opinions were consistent regardless of their school attendance status and academic achievement certificates. However, they varied significantly based on gender, grade level, attitude toward academic success, reading habits, and feelings toward school and classes. According to the study's findings, it is suggested that extracurricular activities be tailored to the interests and needs of students. Additionally, conducting in-depth research with students who do not find the extra curriculum useful is suggested to reveal the reasons for their dissatisfaction.
