Abstract

University students face academic concerns, economic problems, social relationships and many other stress factors related to their careers at different times. This situation, which is caused by many different reasons and expresses the difficulties that students experience towards their careers, is defined as career stress. In this context, the purpose of this study is to examine the role of career resources in explaining the career stress experienced by university students. For this purpose, Personal Information Form, Career Stress Scale and Career Resources Scale were applied to 215 university students, 182 of whom were studying at a foundation university and 33 of whom were studying at a state university. As a result of hierarchical regression analysis, it was determined that career resources explained 23% of the variance related to career stress. Among career resources, soft skills, occupational expertise, social career support, job challenge and career confidence are significant predictors of career stress. While career confidence has the greatest effect on career stress, social career support comes second. The results of the research indicated that career resources had an important role in preventing or reducing career stress. The results of the research revealed the importance of increasing the social support resources of university students together with individual empowerment of university students on the career stress of university students.
