Abstract

The present study aimed to develop a Career Exploration Scale to determine the career exploration behaviors of adolescences. The study group consisted of 629 participants studying in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades of secondary schools. Exploratory Factor Analysis results was showed that the scale consisted of two sub-dimensions called self-exploration and environmental exploration and a total of 12 items. According to the results of the confirmatory factor analysis conducted to test the construct validity of the scale, the scale confirmed 12 items in two factors. The criterion validity study conducted to provide further evidence for the validity of the scale showed that the Career Exploration Scale measured similar behaviors with the Career Development Scale for Children and the Career Resources Scale-Adolescent Form, and it was observed that the developed Career Exploration Scale had criterion validity. According to the reliability of the scale, the Cronbach's alpha (α) internal consistency coefficient was found .85 for the form consisting of self-exploration and environmental exploration dimensions with 12 items, .81 for the self-exploration sub-dimension with 7 items, and .82 for the environmental exploration sub-dimension with 5 items. All results show that the Career Exploration Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to evaluate the career exploration behaviors of individuals studying at secondary school.

Özet

Bu çalışmada, ergenlik dönemindeki bireylerin kariyer araştırma davranışlarını belirlemeye yönelik Kariyer Araştırma Ölçeği geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunda ortaokulların 6. 7. ve 8. sınıflarında eğitim gören toplam 629 katılımcı yer almıştır. Çalışma sonucunda elde edilen Açımlayıcı Faktör Analizi sonuçları, geliştirilen ölçeğin kendini araştırma ve çevreyi araştırma olarak adlandırılan 2 alt boyut ve toplam 12 maddeden oluştuğunu göstermiştir. Ölçekten elde edilen yapının geçerliğini test etmek için uygulanan Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizi sonuçlarının ise ölçek maddelerinden elde edilen değerlerin kabul edilebilir uyum indeksleri içerisinde olduğunu göstermiştir. Kariyer Araştırma Ölçeği’nin geçerliğine daha fazla kanıt sağlamak amacıyla yapılan ölçüt geçerliği çalışması, Kariyer Araştırma Ölçeği’nin Çocuklar için Kariyer Gelişimi Ölçeği ve Kariyer Kaynakları Ölçeği-Ergen Formu ile benzer davranışları ölçtüğünü göstermiş; geliştirilen Kariyer Araştırma Ölçeği’nin ölçüt geçerliğine sahip olduğu görülmüştür. Ölçekten elde edilen güvenirlik değerlerine göre kendini araştırma ve çevreyi araştırma boyutlarından oluşan 12 maddelik formu için Cronbach alfa (α) iç tutarlık katsayısı .85, 7 maddeden oluşan kendini araştırma alt boyutu için .81, 5 maddeden oluşan çevreyi araştırma alt boyutu içinse .82 olarak bulunmuştur. Elde edilen tüm sonuçlar Kariyer Araştırma Ölçeği’nin ortaokul düzeyinde eğitim gören bireylerin kariyer araştırma davranışlarını belirlemede kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir düzeyde bir ölçme aracı olduğunu göstermektedir.
