Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating role of parental attitudes in the effect of 8th grade students' psychological resilience levels on their test anxiety. In this study, path analysis was performed with variables within the framework of structural equation modelling. The study group consisted of a total of 361 students, including 187 female and 174 male students, who continued their education in Gaziantep province during the 2023–2024 academic year. Personal information forms, the Test Anxiety Scale, the Child and Adolescent Psychological Resilience Scale, and the Parenting Attitude Scale were used as data collection tools in the study. SPSS and AMOS software were used to analyse the data. According to the analysis results, it was found that one of the two sub-dimensions of parental attitude, responsibility and acceptance, did not have a mediating effect on the impact of psychological resilience on test anxiety, while the authority and control dimension had a partial mediating role. However, it was observed that the two sub-dimensions of parental attitudes showed a significant relationship with the variables of psychological resilience and test anxiety. It was concluded that the responsibility and acceptance sub-dimension of parental attitudes showed a significant relationship with the mother's education level, and that the two sub-dimensions of parental attitudes showed a significant relationship with the father's education level. The findings obtained in the final stage of the study were discussed in light of the relevant literature. Additionally, recommendations were made regarding practices aimed at increasing parental awareness and improving parental attitudes, drawing attention to the effect of parental attitudes on mental health.
