Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the reflections of academics’ experiences regarding quality and accreditation processes on social work education in accredited undergraduate social work departments. A phenomenological approach, one of the qualitative research designs, was adopted, and in-depth interviews were used as the data collection method. The study group consisted of fifteen faculty members working in accredited social work departments in Türkiye who voluntarily agreed to participate. The data were analyzed using content analysis. The findings were presented under four main themes: “Introduction to Accreditation,” “Preparation Phase,” “Evaluation Process,” and “Impacts of the Accreditation Process.” According to the research findings, accreditation was described as a process that promotes awareness, ensures accountability and transparency, activates support mechanisms, fosters ownership among all stakeholders, and enhances national and international recognition. However, the lack of adequate orientation during the preparation phase, increased workload when not institutionalized, unequal distribution of responsibilities, and insufficient involvement of students and administrative staff were identified as negative aspects of the process. The study offers guiding recommendations for departments planning to apply for accreditation and aims to contribute to the institutionalization of a quality assurance culture.
