Abstract

This study aimed to examine the role of psychological flexibility in the relationship between proactive personality traits and life satisfaction. The research was conducted with a total of 438 individuals residing in Turkey, aged between 18 and 60 years. Four measurement tools were utilized to collect data from the participants: a Demographic Information Form, the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II (AAQ-II) to assess psychological flexibility, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, and the Proactive Personality Scale. In the data analysis process, Pearson correlation coefficients were first calculated to determine the relationships among the variables. Subsequently, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to reveal more complex relationships and to test the mediating effect. The findings indicated a low but positive correlation between proactive personality and psychological flexibility. Additionally, a moderate and positive relationship was found between psychological flexibility and life satisfaction. A significant and positive association was also observed between proactive personality and life satisfaction. These results demonstrated that proactive personality significantly predicted both psychological flexibility and life satisfaction. Furthermore, psychological flexibility was found to have a partial mediating role in the relationship between proactive personality and life satisfaction. This finding suggests that individuals’ levels of life satisfaction are shaped not only directly by their proactive personality traits but also indirectly through the effect of these traits on psychological flexibility. Overall, the results highlight psychological flexibility as a key variable in understanding the impact of personality traits on individual well-being.
