Abstract
This study, which evaluates the accessibility of the interior spaces of the Afyonkarahisar Museum, is based on a comprehensive framework that does not limit accessibility to the removal of physical barriers alone, but also encompasses access to information, wayfinding, exhibition experience, and sensory comfort. The research systematically evaluates the spatial and functional components that determine accessibility by examining the museum space along the circulation route. Within the scope of the study, entrance/reception areas, exhibition halls, horizontal and vertical circulation, service points, rest areas, accessible toilets, signage systems, and lighting components were examined using on-site observation methods, and the data obtained was documented with photographs. The findings show that components such as ramp access, color-based spatial organization, elevator availability, and emergency exit signage support accessibility in the museum. However, they also indicate that elements such as the separate door next to the revolving door, narrow passages in some areas, the uniform height of the counter, insufficient maneuvering space in the accessible restroom, lack of Braille/tactile guidance, and fixed screen heights limit continuity of use. In conclusion, the study reveals that museum accessibility must be addressed in conjunction with information and experience accessibility, as well as physical access.
