Abstract

Introduction: In the literature, complementary therapy methods are increasingly employed to relieve symptoms associated with hemodialysis treatment. Their non-pharmacological nature, costeffectiveness, and suitability for nursing practices have contributed to their growing preference. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the scope of their applications and current research trends has yet to be conducted. This study aims to systematically analyze the scientific publications related to complementary therapies in hemodialysis patients, with the objective of mapping the accumulated knowledge in the field and guiding future research efforts. Methods: Data for this study were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection on June 7, 2025. For the bibliometric analysis, the keywords ["hemodialysis"] AND ["music therapy" OR "massage" OR "acupressure" OR "aromatherapy" OR "reflexology"] were used, without applying a date restriction, resulting in the identification of 833 publications. These studies were analyzed based on publication year, authorship, country of origin, and frequently used keywords. In addition, topic modeling analysis was conducted using the latent dirichlet allocation method to identify dominant research themes. Results: The analysis revealed that the most frequently used keywords within the Web of Science category were “hemodialysis” (n=86), “anxiety” (n=66), and “fatigue” (n=48). In terms of geographical distribution, the highest number of publications originated from Iran (n=187), Türkiye (n=78), China (n=67), and the United States (n=60). It was observed that publication volume began increasing in 2020 and peaked in 2021 with 75 articles. The topic modeling conducted via latent dirichlet allocation identified two predominant themes: “Quality of life in hemodialysis patients” and “Cardiac diseases and resuscitation.” Conclusion: The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the identification of complementary therapies used in hemodialysis, provide an assessment of their current status, and offer guidance for the planning of future research in the field.

Yöntem: Veriler, 07 Haziran 2025 tarihinde “Web of Science Core Collection” veri tabanından elde edilmiştir. Bibliyometrik analiz için, Web of Science Core Collection (WoS) tabanında ["hemodialysis"] AND ["music therapy" OR "massage" OR "acupressure" OR "aromatherapy" OR "reflexology"] anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak, yıl sınırlaması olmaksızın 833 çalışmaya ulaşılmıştır.
