Abstract

Meta-analysis is a quantitative review method that combines the findings of studies conducted on a particular subject within a certain systematic framework and aims to reach an aggregate conclusion from these results. This overall result, called the effect size, is calculated, and interpreted by statistical techniques and sensitivity analyses specific to meta-analysis. Meta-analysis is widely used in health sciences and different disciplines. It has been more popular in recent years. Meta-analysis can be used as an effective review method in social sciences as well as educational sciences. It provides researchers the opportunity to see the data of many studies in a holistic way and reach general results. In this study, the meta-analysis method was explained in outline. The basic concepts and models of meta-analysis are defined. The stages of performing a meta-analysis study are explained. The basics are described as a concise guide for the researchers helping to conduct a meta-analysis study especially in social sciences and other disciplines.
